Description
Internet Protocol Television is far from new, but the rudiments of delivering linear TV over IP are still maturing. In this tripleheader workshop, moderated by Comcast Engineering Fellow Mark Francisco, technologists from Comcast, Helikon.net and Harmonic will dig into new IPTV protocols, “big iron,” and the big, new patent pool that is Versatile Video Coding (VVC). Comcast’s Yasser Syed opens the session with a look at how to achieve parity between linear channel feeds and IPTV clients, including new mechanisms in MPEG-2, SCTE 214-DASH and the SCTE 104/35 DPI specifications that can preserve linear channels as video streams, through mapping to DASH structures. Next, Helikon.net’s Carter Eltzroth details the current state of the VVC patent pool. Harmonic’s Patrick Gendron closes the session with a deep dive on context-adaptive delivery techniques.
